Northwestern Physician Named to Prestigious Fellowship Program Through Leadership Greater Chicago
June M. McKoy, MD, MPH, JD, a geriatrician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, was chosen as a 2005 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow, by the Leadership Greater Chicago (LGC). Dr. McKoy was one of 35 leaders from a variety of vocations recently inducted into the 2005 Fellows class. At Northwestern, Dr. McKoy, conducts NIH-funded research (through the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center), which focuses on cancer control in the area of adverse drug events and reaction especially among geriatric cancer patients. Through her participation in Leadership Greater Chicago Fellows program, Dr. McKoy hopes to increase awareness throughout Chicago, especially among minority communities of the high incidence of colorectal and prostate cancers and provide information about preventative measures individuals can take. "This is truly an honor for me as both a physician and an African-American woman," said Dr. McKoy. "The opportunity provided to me by Leadership Greater Chicago will allow me to further develop my own leadership skills while learning about the needs of the community. The fellowship will also enable me to educate aging adults, especially those within the minority communities about their risk for colorectal and prostate cancer, and the importance of prevention."
