PCCHNS Featured on NBC Channel 5
On April 26, NBC Channel Five in Chicago aired a special report on PCCHNS’ Music-Thanatology program. The report included interviews with PCCHNS Chief Medical Officer Dr. Martha Twaddle, Music-Thanatologists Margaret Pasquesi and Tony Pedersen, and footage of two patients on PCCHNS’ inpatient hospice unit as they and their loved ones received a music vigil. Music-Thanatology is prescribed music that is played on a harp and soothes dying patients both emotionally and physiologically. The music can have powerful results. In addition to bringing a sense of peace and beauty to a patient – and their family – at the end of life, it reduces pain symptoms and regulates a patient's breathing and heart rate to help a patient relax. There are only 70 Music-Thanatologists in the world, two in the Chicago area – at PCCHNS.
