Advanced Physicians Named Ricardo A. Knight, M.D., MBA Executive Vice President for Operations and Chief Medical Officer

Advanced Physicians, S.C., is pleased to announce the appointment of Ricardo A. Knight, M.D., MBA as Executive Vice President for Operations and Chief Medical Officer. As Executive Vice President for Operations, Dr. Knight will be primarily responsible for strategic planning and business development. As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Knight will oversee the physicians at our eight rehabilitation centers through out the greater Chicago area.

Dr. Knight started his career in rehabilitation medicine as a Physical Therapist in 1987 and went on to receive his Medical Degree in 1993 from State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He received his training in Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Knight is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Knight obtained his MBA in 2006 from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.

Prior to joining Advanced Physicians, S.C., Dr. Knight was employed by the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago where he served as the Administrative Medical Director of RIC’s partnership with the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network. In that capacity, Dr. Knight directed a network of physical medicine services that included a 66-bed rehabilitation hospital, two out patient centers, a day rehabilitation center and rehabilitation services at two acute care hospitals. Prior to his work at Alexian Brothers Dr. Knight was the Medical Director for Inpatient Rehabilitation for RIC’s partnership with Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Illinois.

Dr. Knight’s academic appointments include being an instructor at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in Cambridge, Massachusetts and being an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University’s School of Medicine in Chicago.

Dr. Knight belongs to the following professional societies: American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Association of Academic Physiatrists, American Congress of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and International Society of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine.

West Suburban Medical Center Physicians Receive Inaugural Award

Gastroenterologists Stephen Deutsch, M.D., and Rama Venu, M.D., have been doing more than treating patients at West Suburban Medical Center for a combined 35 years, they have been demonstrating a superior personal and professional commitment to the field of Gastroenterology. As a result, Dr. Deutsch and Dr. Venu were among the first group of inductees as American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Fellows.

Dr. Stephen Deutsch joined the medical staff in 1984. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ. He then received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA. Dr. Deutsch completed an internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals . He also completed a Henrietta Frieder Postdoctoral Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Chicago Hospitals. Dr. Deutsch is board-certified in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, American College of Physicians and now the American Gastroenterological Association.

Dr. Rama Venu joined the medical staff in 1993. He received his medical degree from Kerala University, India before completing his medical residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, OH. He went on to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Medical College of Wisconsin Hospital, Milwaukee, WI. Dr. Venu is board-certified in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology and now the American Gastroenterological Association.

Marianjoy Names Noel Rao, M.D., Vice President, Medical Affairs

Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital has named Noel Rao, M.D., to the position of Vice President, Medical Affairs. Dr. Rao has been a member of the Marianjoy staff for more than 20 years, leading clinical services, research, and residency training efforts. He previously served as Marianjoy’s Medical Director. Dr. Rao is a physiatrist specializing in the areas of brain injury, neuromuscular disorders, EMG, orthotics, urodynamics and equilibrium testing.

Dr. Rao is active in research conducted at Marianjoy, with 20 publications in referred journals and more than 50 competitive papers presented at national meetings or published in abstract form in referred journals. Dr. Rao is currently conducting research with a grant from the National Institute of Health. He is a guest examiner at the Oral Board Examination of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, a member of the editorial board for The Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, and Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rush Medical College. Dr. Rao received the 2005 Distinguished Physician Award from the Indian American Medical Association of Illinois.
